The 'Show Me' State
As the 24th state to join the Union, Missouri has been waving this flag proudly
for nearly a century. The state seal is centered on a background of three equal stripes - one red,
one white, and one blue to celebrate the nation's colors. The right side of the seal features the
U.S. arms to show the ultimate authority and jurisdiction of the U.S. over Missouri.
Missouri natives can be reminded of how the territory became a state with the
many representations of the journey. The 24 stars around the seal and at the top of the seal
represent Missouri being the 24th state to join the Union. The roman numerals represent the
year 1820 when Missouri began acting as a state. The cloud around the inner 24 stars represents
the struggles in joining the Union, and the crescent symbolizes Missouri being a new state. Put
your state pride on display and honor those who fought for the rights of Missouri with this historical flag.
